What It Is

Raven Labs was a legendary boutique audio company founded by Steve Rabe, the visionary behind SWR Engineering. Known for their uncompromising quality, Raven Labs produced incredible preamps, mixers, and acoustic audio tools like the True Blue EQ, PMB Master Blender, and MDB-1. These units are highly sought after by musicians who demand the absolute best in transparent, studio-grade tone.

How It Started

When Raven Labs eventually closed its doors, a lot of incredible musicians were left without support for their favorite gear. One of these musicians was my now friend, Mark Erelli, an amazing folk musician out of Boston. I've been following his work for a very long time. Coming up with a power supply solution for his Raven Labs PMB1 started 98Audio, a platform to help musicians and artists keep their beloved Raven Labs gear up and running like new. I've even found new modifications to enhance them! These are pieces of equipment that many consider the holy grail of their rig. In fact, James (Hutch) Hutchinson still uses a very early MDB-1 on his live rig every show on tour with Bonnie Raitt! At 98Audio, I recognized the need to keep these legendary units alive and performing at their peak, in honor of the vision and work Steve Rabe put into them.

What Repairs I Do

I will handle everything from diagnosis to repairing whatever is needed. Typically, Ravens will need replacement of switches, pots, jacks, and leaking capacitors. My power supply adapter with a true bypass toggle can be put inside the Raven as a modification. Other modifications include an impedance option for the Aux/Mic channel (Stock is 820k, A toggle switch for 10M matches INST channel). If your gear/mic works better in the INST channel, this will help. Also a remote mute footswitch option to mute the unit with your foot. If you use both channels live, this is a great option! These mods were developed by working together with the mucisians that love these units and use them in their live rigs. I treat every Raven Labs unit with the respect and precision it deserves. I'm proud to be able to do this in honor of Steve Rabe and his loyal Raven Labs community.
